with the packages as mentioned in the book, i hardly could work for more than 10 minutes with firefox or thunderbird before the system hangs: the keyboard is dead, the mouse can be moved but no click will give an action. waiting for 20 minutes does not change anything... so i had to push the reset button.

see enclosed log1

after resetting 3 times (around 5 to 10 minutes running before hanging), i googled from another system and upgraded input-evdev to 2.7.2 and video-intel to 2.20.2 (the most current versions available).

the problem seems to be handled but not really fixed as i can see in the log. as the system now is stable for almost an our, i probably can live with it.

after some time, the system seems to disable acceleration and then the system runs stable with firefox 14.0.1 and thunderbird 14.0 without any more entries in the log

see enclosed log2

maybe we should update the 2 drivers in the book!

i don't like to miss acceleration, but this is better than hanging after a frew minutes... (and my i7 is capable of playing videos even without acceleration)

my system:

intel core i7-2600 (the on-chip graphics) with an 1920x1080 screen vga (not hdmi as i am using a switchbox which only has vga).

kernel is 2.4.7 32bit with PAE (as i have 16gb ram). glibc 2.15, gcc 4.7.1
