Yes, it means append, but now I am sure I can use ">". Thanks.

No success of printing, either with or without pam. i am trying
everything. Before replying, I removed cups and cups-filters,
reinstalled, reinstalled gutenprint, saved this file, restarted
everything, still nothing.
