I was trying to get OpenLDAP up and running, and I had a question about
the install instructions included with the BLFS Book. Do I understand
correctly that if I were to follow the instructions word for word, that
I should be able to get the SLAPD daemon to run (Of course not usefully,
nor necessarily securely)?

Reason I asked when ever I try to run the /etc/init.d/slapd start I
always get a fail.
Of course there isn't any thing in the syslog or on the screen that
tells me whats going on, but I have managed to narrow it down to the -u
ldap command in the /etc/init.d/sldap script. SLDAPD will run fine with
out any additional parameters, it will run fine, with the -g ldap
parameter, but does not like the -u ldap parameter.

Thank You,
Casey
