"moaning"? Oh my, I fear the intent of my question was misinterpretted.
I _have_ been using xpdf for at least a few years now and it has always seemed to work for me, as best I recall. The major complaint I would have with it is its UI is a little, can I call it, "clunky". If there were a nicer, easier to use, better looking, package I wouldn't mind replacing it. As best I could determine from all my looking around for Linux PDF viewers today, ePDFView seemed to be abandoned. I was concerned about installing an abandoned package, with nobody to attend to it--not that I haven't anyhow.
