I happen to build qt-4 towards the end of my normal desktop builds, and that lets me build qupzilla (as a backup browser) and vlc. I might give qpdfview a try on some of my systems, but I don't think the dependencies will play well with Paul's needs.
And qt5 is a far heavier dependency than qt4 - I tried it once, in a development system : needs the full webkit build for qupzilla (worked ok, but full qt5 took _sooo_long_ to build) and vlc without qt4 is unusable for a desktop. ĸen -- Nanny Ogg usually went to bed early.
