I think this may be due to an incompatibility between xine-lib and current
libdvcss. Try downgrading libdvdcss to 1.2.13 and see if that works.
I tried downgrading libdvdcss to both 1.3.0 and 1.2.13 and got the same
output from xine each time:
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.3
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.3
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: failed to open/read the DVD
I did play around with /usr/lib/libdvdcss.so.2 and if that is deleted, I
get the message:
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 5.0.3
libdvdread: Encrypted DVD support unavailable.
libdvdnav: DVD Title: SLEEPLESS_IN_SEATTLE
libdvdnav: DVD Serial Number: 26FBB80f
libdvdnav: DVD Title (Alternative):
libdvdnav: DVD disk reports itself with Region mask 0x00fa0000. Regions: 1 3
So it appears to be related to libdvdcss and encrypted disks. Does anyone
know of an iso that I can burn onto a dvd that is not encrypted?
I note that the dvd above does play in vlc after a 30 second delay for
encryption keys with libdvdcss-1.4.0.
Another thing:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bdubbs bdubbs 338588 Feb 27 2013 libdvdcss-1.2.13.tar.bz2
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bdubbs bdubbs 355417 Aug 4 2014 libdvdcss-1.3.0.tar.bz2
-rw-rw-r-- 1 bdubbs bdubbs 364373 Dec 18 2015 libdvdcss-1.4.0.tar.bz2
These releases are not recent.
