from my recent build, this not required anymore. Wicd ships a systemd unit file with it. It should have been installed when doing make install.

Wicd is only needed for when you mainly use wifi for connecting to networks. It is redundant on wired connections.

Yes, I see that now. But as I just mentioned to Bruce, I'd like to experiment with a wifi card so as to learn the technical details. My family mostly uses wifi laptops and such, and I'd like to learn.
