I downloaded giflib-5.1.6 and uncompressed it. According to
installation instructions just run 'make'.
To my surprise after I ran 'make' got the following message 'make: ***
No targets. Stop.'.
I then ran 'ls -la Makefile' and saw it was zero bytes.
'-rw-rw-r-- 1 ****** ****** 0 Feb 12 09:26 Makefile'.
I then had to go out and get giflib-5.1.9 which has a valid Makefile.
Now I can continue with the Java Binary JDK.
