Hi Linda,

Here are the steps to take for copying to an external hard drive.

1.. On your desktop you should have an icon called My Computer. There you
should press enter so you'll see the list of drives you have on your
computer. In that list will be the 2 drives you'll be working with. One of
those should be your C Drive which is your main hard drive. The other will
be whatever letter your external drive has been assigned by your computer.
For purposes of these instructions, let's just call it your D drive.

2. Arrow to your C drive and hit enter. Use your arrow keys to go down to
whatever file you want to copy to your D drive. If you want to copy more
than 1 file, and they are next to each other in the list of files, arrow to
the first file, then hold down your control key, then press your arrow key
down so you'll hear which files are selected.

2.. Once you have your file or files selected, keep your control key held
down and press your C key. C stands for copy. Then you can release the
control key.

3.. Now, hold down your alt key and press the Tab key until you here My
Computer again. Release both keys. This brings you back to the list of the
drives of your computer. Arrow to the D drive, and press enter. This puts
you into the D drive where you'll be putting your copied folders or files.

4.. If you just want to copy the files into that drive, without putting
them into a particular folder, hold down your control key and then press the
V key. This pastes the files into that drive. JAWS will tell you the
percentage of how much is being copied into the drive. That is if you have a
lot of files, or the file you are pasting is very large. If it is a small
file, it pastes it so fast that it won't give you a count.

5.. Once it's pasted, the file or files should be at the end of the list
of files on the D drive. Press your End key (That's E-N-D, not N). That will
take you to the end of the list so you can check to make sure the file is
there. You can go ahead and hit enter on that file to make sure it is all
there.

6.. If you are satisfied it's there, go ahead and hold down your alt key
and press F4 to close the file if you've opened it. Then press the alt key
and F4 to close that hard drive. This should automatically bring your C
drive back up. If you don't want to keep the file or files on your main C
drive any more, just arrow to the file you copied so that it is highlighted.
Then hit your delete key. If the file is not too big, JAWS will ask you if
you are sure you want to move the file to the recycle bin. Tab until you
hear yes and hit enter, or when it asks you if you are sure, just hit your Y
key. If the file is very large, JAWS may ask you if you want to permanently
delete the file. Hit the Y key if you are positive you don't want it there
anymore, or hit the tab key to the Yes choice and hit enter. If you are not
sure, just hit No and the file will not be deleted from the C drive.

7.. Hold down your Alt key and press your F4 key to close your C drive.

**

If you don't have the icon for my computer on your desktop, you can also get
there by going through Windows explorer. If you need to do that, just write
again, and I'll explain how to do that.

I think that's everything. Except for emptying your Recycle bin. If you need
that instruction, just ask. That's done through Windows Explorer also.

I hope I explained those steps good enough.
