Hey I did that same thing too back with open book 5 did that same comparison 
and Open book came through the best. I am still using that program but 
haven't updated to 8.
But did you ever hear of a scanner software called, OSCAR? I had that back 
on the DOS computer through Screen Power Speech. Open Book compared to that 
well just no comparison!
It does seem for me anyways do a good job of scanning about anything I put 
on that scanner..
