Ok.

When I went to look at the Jaws-users webpage, the version they link to 
there is in fact B (vlc-0.8.6b-win32), not F (vlc-0.8.6f-win32), and yes, 
it's way more accessible due to the fact that I can actually find menus etc. 
now, will have to play with it in order to try find the relevant tracks etc.
