I'm doing it your way...

Now, this new one has it's own power supply and looks like a book that 
stands on one end of it same as you would stack a book on shelves.
Because of the location of my USB plug, I have to have this either sitting 
on top of my desk where everything else is and could likely get knocked 
over, or I can keep it inside the door of the cabinet where the CPU resides. 
But keeping it plugged in all the time is my real question here as I would 
like to only plug it in when I need to transfer something to it and if I do 
this would that cause any harm to the drive?
