I have a Del laptop and I have had to set it up twice since the hard drive
had to be replaced after a year. Both times I had a very weird problem in
that the keyboard would not control the jaws functions properly. Like I
would press Alt F4 and it would say alt control f4 and would not do what it
was supposed to. I called FS both times (since I forgot the original fix)
and we figured out that it was necessary to go to the msconfig from the run
command and unclick everything in the start list that was not absolutely
necessary. I think the main culprit turned out to be my Lexmark printer
applications.
So just in case you end up with this weird problem here is the fix.
Also, Dell has a weird connection to the wireless signals. I really liked
just using the regular Microsoft "connect to" dialog. I finally had to call
Dell to see how to connect and even now I am not quite sure how it works.
Those were the two main hurdles with a Dell that I think other laptops don't
have. All in all I like my Dell and I especially like the switch that
allows me to "turn off" the wireless signal without having to go through the
disconnect routine. I just flip the switch when I am not at the computer
and I feel a little bit safer from Internet intrusion .
Good luck with your new laptop.
