Hang in there on 2007.
The ribbon menus are unusual, but I found them to be a fairly short
learning curve, and for the most part I really like Office 2007.
If you are just starting, keep a separate record of the key commands for
the things you need to do, and after a short time you'll have most of
them in your memory and things will go quickly.
Several of the commands are the same as you learned them in earlier
versions of Word.
