Hi Janet:

I spoke to a person at Serotek today, and it looks like they do offer a product that will allow a blind person to control a remote computer that is not running a screen reader. The product is called RIM - Remote Incident Manager. I would suggest that you give them a call and have them send you some more info. The product is a little pricey, but if it will enable you to do the job then it may just be worth it.

They offered to give me a 15 day trial, which I will take advantage of.

Visit http://www.serotek.com to get their phone number.

Good luck,
John

Hi,

I have done quite a bit of research on this subject during the past few
weeks. The only viable solution is to use something like Jaws Tandem. In a nutshell, the computer that is being accessed remotely must be running some
type of screen reader for a blind person to have any chance of remotely
supporting that computer. The way all of the remote support software that I have found works, is that it transmits chunks of graphical information from
the remote computer to the support computer. Since Jaws cannot interpret
this graphical info, there is nothing for Jaws to speak. I have not tried
the Tandem solution, because all of the computers that I would need to
support would not be running Jaws. And it is unlikely that someone not
running Jaws will allow me to install Jaws on their computer so that I can provide remote support. This is one of those situations where it makes more sense to have a sighted person doing the remote support. That's hard for
me to say, but sometimes you have to go with what makes the most business
sense.

HTH,
John
