Jacob:

I'd love to know more about where you do your grocery shopping. That flash drive sounds great!

Yes, generally when you plug it into a USB port, you'll shortly hear a recognition sound, and then it might try to do a form of autoplay scan, but you can just hit the escape key.

Then, apart from saving files using the drive letter in the file name, if you hit windows key + E to bring up windows explorer, it should start on my computer and if you arrow down, it'll go down the tree structure over your drives, and that should include the flash drive, and once on it, hit the tab key, and you'll be in a file listing.

Also, if you initialoly arrow up, you should be on my documents where you most likely save your documents.

Along the lines of this, I recently got hold of an 8Gb flash drive for a rather cheap price from the grocery store which I do my online shopping through, and will just say I'm very impressed!

Stay well

Subject: [Blind-Computing] how do you use a usb flash drive

Hi list,
I have a USB flash drive. I was told that apart from holding more information. They are much more durable than the old floppydisks I have been using. My question is. Are they more or less plug and play? For example, can I just plug it into one of my USB ports on my desktop or notebook and be ready to go? Or is there anything else I need to do first? From what I understand, the flash drive should just automatically show up as a new drive in "my computer". Is that correct? If so, I assume then. That to save a file from MS word onto the drive. I just preceed the filename with the required drive letter e.g drive E etc Followed by the usual ":". Is that correct?
thanks Jason
