Hi Michael,
No, there is no need to delete a scheme.
In the schemes combo box, you can arrow up and down thru the options,
and select the one that best suits your system.
Once you have selected a scheme, you can tab thru the available settings
for
that scheme, and then use the up and down arrow keys to select the
behavior
you want for each item, such as the hard disk, monitor etc.
After making your choices, tabv to the apply button, and press the
spacebar,
then tab to the okay button and press the spacebar again, you are done.

On the first (power schemes) page of that power dialogue, one of the
options in that combo box is the always on scheme.

Under the control panel you should be able to find power options
relating to if/when it goes into standby itsself etc, and on the
standard turn off dialogue there should be a standby button, or
alternatively, if you hit Ctrl + alt + delete, that dialogue has a
shutdown menu which also offers turn off, restart, standby etc.
If you're not seeing standby at all, its just possible you need to tell
it in that power options dialogue that it's in fact a laptop, but which
can be told to run in always on mode.

Subject: [Blind-Computing] power settings question
Hello listers,
How do you put a laptop in stand by mode? The reason I ask is because
after 10 minutes my hard drive completely shuts down. Once I turn it
back on the windows log on screen comes up. I press enter and it goes
to the desktop. Even though I put the setting for the hard drive to
never shut down. I am running XP pro and jaws. Thanks
Michael
