The utility used to convert FAT32 to NTFS is a Windows XP / Vista utility
called 'convert'. You will need to call this utility from the command line.
At the command line prompt type convert C: /fs:ntfs and press enter (this
assumes you are converting the 'C' drive). I believe you will be prompted
for the volume label so you might want to get the label name before you run
the utility. Before doing all of this you might want to type Help Convert at
the command line prompt to get any other parameters you might want to use.
All of this will be moot if your current drive is formatted for NTFS. If it
is, then you will gain the full capacity of the new drive. I upgraded from a
40 gb to a 120 gb drive (both NTFS volumes) and had full access to 120 gb.
I always hate to make this disclaimer in situations like this but, 'do this
at your own risk'. The saving grace here is that you will always have your
backup if anything goes wrong.
Take care,
Russ

Subject: [Blind-Computing] Disk Restore Questions
I have room for only one hard disk in my PC and I want to upgrade to a
larger drive.
I have my original disk drive backed up with Acronis True-Image (which I
believe makes a image of my hard disk).
Two questions:
1. When I put in the new hard disk, must I reformat it first before
restoring the image with True-Image? I believe I can boot off a bootable
CD
made from True-Image and then pull the restore files off my USB drive.
2. As for Jaws - Do I need to remove the authorization from my
original drive and then re-authorize on the new drive or can I just
restore
the disk image to the new drive and not worry about Jaws?
Also, if I do have to format the new drive should I use FAT32 or NTFS?
Thanks.
n Pete
