It's an FTP (file transfer protocol) client, and I use it for uploading content to the two websites I manage since while you can browse them using a normal web browser (HTTP = hypertext transfer protocol), in order to actually upload/change/delete content, you access the server using FTP from the backend.

You can also generally browse FTP locations using your web browser, but you might need to log in, or access them anonymously, which generally wouldn't give you change/delete access, and FileZilla is just somewhat more usable for me since it's almost like using a version of windows explorer - which you can also sometimes use as an FTP client, but I'd rather stick to a dedicated client as such.

I use FileZilla, and it's free, and works perfectly fine as far as I'm
concerned.

Basically, you enter server name, username, password etc. then clicdk on the
quick connect button, then tab through to the file system tree structure,
then to a file listing where you use the context menus to do things, and if
you tab over from there, you get the server path, file/directory listing,
and upload queue etc., and it works fine/perfect.

Also remembers previous connection if you tell it you're the only user of
the computer during the installation.

Hello all,
Please check out Flash FXP (www.flashfxp.com). It's a fantastic piece of
shareware, and it allows you to transfer files from and to an FTP server.
On
my broadband connection I can get up to 1.0MBPS transfer speed. Quite
accessible with screen readers. Not sure of the price, but you do have 30
days to try it out. Hope this helps!
