My Del laptop has started doing something similar to this. Sometimes after I have walked away from my laptop it will go to sleep, hibernate, stand-by or something. Most times when I return to my laptop all I need to do is hit the down arrow and press enter and I'm back in. There are other times when nothing will get it to come back on except for holding down the power button for at least 30 seconds or more. This has happened when working off both AC and battery.
