Marilyn, most of the time, the Desktop links are not the actual programs. You can probably delete some of them without an issue. The program itself would still be there. Windows is pretty good at warning you if you are starting to do something that might create a problem. 55! My Lord. And I get upset if I have 20 on my Desktop.
