[Blind-Computing] "to free up disk space"

I periodically get that stupid message when exiting O.E.    
When I tell it to go ahead and do its thing, I get that annoying error ding and
a message to the effect that o.e. is running, and thusly it can't do the 
compacting or whatever it does.
What's going on anyway??
