Hi Pedro,
When a drive is erased, each sector of the disk is written over several
times usually with a series of characters. By doing this the data is rendered
theoretically irretrievable. When one formats a drive the data is still
retrievable to a data retrieval program.
In the case of old hard drives there is always the threat of identity
thieves getting a hold of an old hard drive and doing who knows what with it.
So, wiping it with a good disk eraser program is a safety step.

God bless,
Mark

Just curious!
is there an advantage to erasing a hard-drive as opposed to simply
reformatting it?
