Well, I just reinstalled IE 8 for a third time. I have one or two
applications that normally open web pages that will not open the page when
IE 8 is installed! So I will probably uninstall it again soon.
I still have a "Manage Add-ons" in the Tools menu. If you do not have this,
perhaps it is because you currently do not have any Add-ons installed. If
you go to a web page that requires an add-on, like WindowsUpdate.com, an
alert in the Information Bar should be announced. It will say an ActiveX
control is required and must be installed. Press Alt + n to place focus in
the Information Bar. It should repeat the announcement. Press Space to
activate the control an bring up a context menu. Arrow to the Install or
Allow option and press Enter.

Hello Don.
Thanks for answering my email yesterday. I'm sorry that I haven't been
able too get back too you sooner then today. I did try the suggestions
that you gave me, but I didn't see anything in there under tools in
internet explorer 8, in mannaging add ons for enabling active x control.
If you, or anyone else has further suggestions on how to turn on this type
of control functionality, I would appreciate it. Thanks for helping me,
Al

I am not sure how to give you specific directions, but I can give you a
couple of leads.
1. Go to the Tools menu (Alt + t). Arrow down to the "Manage
Add-ons..." (a), then select "Enable or Disable Add-ons..." (e). You
might need to investigate a little to check if the Add-on you are
interested in is enabled.
2. Make sure that ActiveX and other Add-ons are not disabled under the
security tab of the Internet Options.
Let me know if you need more specific help.
