Ken,

This makes sense but this would mean there would have to be
a partition of some type already on it to hold these files.
I did look and only see what I've created. I have a similar
issue with a WDC 320 GB drive I bought a while ago. It only
shows me 299 GB. Maybe it is the way WDC sets up the drive?

No, XP does not have a limit. What is probably happening is
that the hard
drive came with some files already on it - drivers and
such - so XP is
seeing the available space left on the hard drive. Go
through Windows
Explorer, or my computer if you have that on the desktop and
see if there
are already files on it.

I just got a 1TB hard drive and it had about 7 files already
on it. Those
files were for automatically setting up a backup for my
CPU's hard drive,
and programs to make it compatible with Windows or a Mack. I
didn't want
those files but wanted to keep them for future use just in
case, so I copied
those files to my C drive and then deleted them from the 1TB
drive. After
that I had a full 1TB drive to use.

HTH
