Hi,

The space issue is all about actual size versus advertised space. This has been going on for years because math complicates everything. I have a 250gb dirve that shows up as 232gb so I would think a 750gb dirve would be around 700gb. Below is an article on the battle of actual size and advertised size.

No, XP does not have a limit. What is probably happening is that the hard drive came with some files already on it - drivers and such - so XP is seeing the available space left on the hard drive. Go through Windows Explorer, or my computer if you have that on the desktop and see if there are already files on it.

I just got a 1TB hard drive and it had about 7 files already on it. Those files were for automatically setting up a backup for my CPU's hard drive, and programs to make it compatible with Windows or a Mack. I didn't want those files but wanted to keep them for future use just in case, so I copied those files to my C drive and then deleted them from the 1TB drive. After that I had a full 1TB drive to use.

HTH

I just purchased a new 750 GB hard drive from Tiger Direct.
However, I notice Win XP Pro is only recognizing it as 699
GB. Does XP have a limit on the size a hard drive can be?

thanks
Al
