I installed:  safely remove hardware, and all it does is say:  device ---  
has been installed or device has been removed.  It does not appear in the 
system tray; do I need help??  Don

I'll add something else to Gerald's comments.  If you plug and unplug a
printer which functions through the USB port, the system calls it new
hardware and duplicates what you may already have in your system.  That can
be a real trip.  I once had 5 copies of my Brother printer before I realized
what was happening.
