No, I am not sure if Eject would perform the Safely remove function. If not, it should. I have Vista Home Premium, perhaps this is not available on XP?

The only choice I see similar to wat you mention below is
the choice Eject? Would that be the same?

The quickest way to perform this function that I know of is
to select it
from the context menu in Windows Explorer. With this
method, there are no
dialogs to respond to and it works for any drive letter.
Just select the
drive at the "Computer" level, press the Applications key,
press "S" for
"Safely remove" and hit Enter.

If Safely remove hardware does not appear in the Systems
tray I discovered
a
temporary fix.
Use Windows r to open the run dialog box and paste in the
following
RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll

Then press enter and the Safely Remove Hardware window
opens.

I just save the text in a document that can be opened and
copied quickly
if
the need arises.

unplug a flash
drive

Hi list,
I have a flash drive, that I want to start using instead
of relying on
floppy disks, which tend to be more fragile. As I
understand it, I just
plug
the flash drive into one of the USB ports on my computer.
And it should
show
up as drive E in the "my computer" list. Is that correct?
From what I understand, when using a USB external hard
drive, you are
meant to select the "safely remove hardware" option from
somewhere on the
computer before unplugging the external drive from the
computer? Is this
correct? And where do I find that option for when I start
using my
external
drive? Do you have to follow the same procedure for
unplugging a USB flash
drive? And are Flash drives and USB hard drives regarded
as the same
thing?
As I have a 500 gig external hard drive. And an only 1 gig
flash drive.
Thanks Jason
