Hi David,

When using the Inserrt + up arrow for say line or Insert +down arrow for say
all you need to use the Insert key in the 6 pack of keys and not Insert on
the number pad. At least in the NVDA version 2009.1. Below is the direct
download link for the 2009.1 version.

This is a test version, but actually it's pretty good. Apart from any fixes
it needs, it will become the public version before long.

This will start the installer, so stand by.....

Take care.

The great thing about NVDA for Jaws users is that most of the important and
common keystrokes are identical.

So insert F12 will tell the time and date.
Insert up arrow will read current line
Insert down arrow say all
Insert b - read dialogue box in foreground
Insert T read title of application
Insert F will report the format of font

And most usefully of all NVDA has the same keystroke to turn keyboard help
on.
That is insert 1 and NVDA will read out the function of keys that you
press.

To open a text file with all the keystrokes for NVDA press
Insert N
Then cursor down to help and then select quick keyboard reference from the
sub menu.

Actually I'd like a copy of that guide myself since I keep the program
around.

Hi Jenny,

I will send you a complete keystroke guide for NVDA off list. When NVDA
first starts you have to press the keystroke Insert +N to get to the
preferences page to make changes. The insert key I refer to is the insert
key in the 6 pack of keys in between the main keyboard and the number pad.
Hope this helps. Take care.

Hi Listers

I'm enquiring for a person who is learning to use NVDA to see if there is
someone who might be able to answer some questions for the person who is
trying to teach her. If anyone would be willing to pass on their email
address to me I could put the education officer from the Macular
Degeneration organisation in touch with you. I'm writing from Australia, by
the way.

I hope this makes sense to everyone, but it would be great if we could help
because she is struggling a bit and can't afford to buy a screen reading
program.

Thanks in anticipation.

Kind regards

Jenny Dawson
