Chris, for answers, go to www.humanware.com which sells the vrs. THe version provided by NLS has an onboard speaker while the one anyone can buy uses ear buds and/or small external speakers. CHeck it out. I assume you are in the u s and can call your local Talking Books Center for more details. I just received my nls vrs, advanced version, and have not had any time to learn houw to use it. marilyn
