Re NVDA and portable drive. The only way to get NVDA to start completely automatically is to put it on a CD with the autorun.inf file. This will start in XP and Vista without any keystrokes at all. If you put the portable version of NVDA on a USB pen with the autorun.inf you will get start NVDA as the first option of the autorun dialogue box. So on XP machines you simply put in the USB pen drive wait a few seconds and then press the enter key. Unfortunately life with Vista is more complicated and it is possible Vista will introduce annoying dialogue boxes asking you if you wan to scan the USB pen. Really I think the simplest way around this is to use narrator to navigate through these boxes to start NVDA.
If you google NVDA and autorunl.inf you should find a page with the necessary file to start up NVDA. A tip is to include the free utility called mute.exe on your pen. Make a bat file on your pen with the line mute.exe off in it. Call the file unmute.bat . After this you should find that getting into your pen drive and pressing u and enter will have a way of unmuting any PC. Mute.exe is on the Jaws user home page. What I ment to ask is concerning the portable versions. If I have them on a flash drive, do I just plug in the flash drive and then it will start talking? This question is in reference to NVDA? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Maria Campbell Sent: Monday, January 11, 2010 10:19 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Blind-Computing] system to go Pretty similar to JAWS. You can try it by going to www.satogo.com One difference is that you must be connected to the Internet for it to work.
