What hasn't been made clear to me is that if you do not have a paid for
player but instead merely have the free NLS digital player can you still
have access to the BARD site? THe reason I ask is that you can download
books from the BARD site and move them to a tumb drive or blank cartridge
and play them on the free NLS player so can recipients of the free player
have access to that site?

I don't understand. The players are free if you are blind. The
Library of congress locks their publications to their players because
they are publishing materials that sighted people normally would need
to pay for. They are giving these materials to the blind for free.
But they can only do that if they can limit the ability to distribute
this copy righted material freely on the net. Or at least that is the
way i understand NLS. If i have gotten it wrong, please enlighten me.

Hi, yes that is true! But I still think it's discrimination that the
people
that can afford the players, where they can download the books whenever
they
want and the people that can't afford the players have to wait for their
book to come in the snail mail.
I just don't understand why they had to make the cards incompatible

Hi
I was wondering if there is any software that can play
the digital books from the National Library Service (NLS)?
It seems like the only thing I can find to play the books is
a $350 portable player. I would be just as happy if I could
play them on my computer.
God bless,
Mark
