Yea, "delete GMail permanently" is the right option so just try that; or what did it do if you already did enter on that? I don't get where you would put a new address on that so what does the Verizon account have to do with it? Or did you mean deleting in OE first? Then go to tools, then options, accounts, find the GMail account and tab to "remove"; it will still ask you if you really want to remove the account so just confirm that and close the options.
