HI David; I haven't used Avast in quite some time but, try the following ; 1. Open Avast. 2. Assuming you're using standard unskinned interface, alt s, followed by s. 3. Scroll down the tree till sounds is highlighted. 4. Tab to "enable Avast! sounds" check box, and press space to check it. 5. Tab to ok and activate it.
These steps are for an earlier version but, hopefully they will help. Take care.
