well, I did have my friend go into;
Control Panel / Sounds & Audio Devices / Sounds Page
we do not see avast listed in the sound scheme.
how does one,
assign these sounds?

Have you checked to make sure that all the Avast sounds were installed
into
Control Panel / Sounds & Audio Devices / Sounds Page. In the sounds
scheme
Tree view list there should be a place in there that lists just the Avast
sounds. An Avast folder, so to speak. These sounds may need to be
assigned
to his sound scheme. Hope this helps. Take care.

as I indicated, all the boxes in the sounds tab are already checked.
for example;
when an update is installed,
he receives no audio confirmation, however there's an information screen
which alerts him that the update was successful.

I haven't used Avast in quite some time but, try the following ;
1. Open Avast.
2. Assuming you're using standard unskinned interface, alt s, followed by
s.
3. Scroll down the tree till sounds is highlighted.
4. Tab to "enable Avast! sounds" check box, and press space to check it.
5. Tab to ok and activate it.
These steps are for an earlier version but, hopefully they will help.

Good morning;
I helped a friend over the weekend to install avast 5.exe.
everything went well.
however, he is not receiving any audio when the program gets updated, or,
when a scan is finished.
I got him to open avast from desktop,
he clicked on settings,
ctrl+tabbed to the sounds tab,
all the boxes in hear were checked.
how do we get the audio promts?
I have never used this virus program.
