This is an excellent trick to play a DVD! Many thanks Jacob for your
suggestion! It works a treat here! This is with VLC 0.8.9.

There is also a way to select it from within the player itsself, but
this is how I generally do it, including on folder copies of DVDs.

Menu system activated with alt key, over to navigation menu item,
arrow down to track, right arrow, and then arrow up and down to
something like title1, and hit enter.

I've installed the older, more blind friendly version of VLC.
(0.8.6i) Now, what steps do I take to look at the directory of the
files/track on the DVD, select one and simply start playing that track?
