Its also a matter of what you're doing with the browser. If the person is 
doing very basic things then its possible he or she may have never 
encountered a problem to make them conclude that jaws 4.5 won't work with IE 
8. Heck, I'm using jaws 12 and consider myself a knowledgeable computer 
user, and I've never used the RSS reader thing--I've had no need to do so.

Have you tried a version earlier than 9, to back up your statement?
I am currently using version 6.2 with IE 8.
As far as earlier versions, I can't say since I don't have anything that old
installed.
