I just downloaded the update installer file, than ran it. It is smart enough to disable and / or uninstall version 1. It also disables the Windows Firewall and remanants of Defender as it installs. It then configures and restarts all of these services. I heard several such notifications get announce as it proceeded. It does require a reboot after installation.

I think it is ready for primetime, since it is out of beta. It sounds like they pulled out planned functionality of real time monitoring of websites, due to performance. They released it very quietly, perhaps because of reduced functionality? Many times, they geographically rooll out such upgrades on Windows Update to manage large demand for downloads.

Did you first have to uninstall MSE 1.0 before installing 2.0? Or did you just shut down MSE 1.0 before starting the download of MSE 2.0?

Hi all.
Can I point out that Security Essentials 2.0 is officially available from www.microsoft.com/security_essentials. I have upgraded right now with initially problems but after a reboot the upgrade was successful and is now protecting my computer.
Take care.
