It really depends on an option in the options dialogue box of almost alol 
mail clients relating to whether it should send a message immediately, or 
place it in outbox until next time either the user initiates the 
send/receive, or it happens automatically, and this is partly since in old 
days, and still nowadays for some, they're not actually online 
continuously - but connect specifically for things like send/receive, 
browsing specific sites, etc.
