It definitely is, though having a board makes it significantly easier to keep track of things.

Obviously due to this lockdown, everything is shut down, including where my Dad works until further notice. I go down to my parents for tea sometimes. A few days ago when I went over, my Brother Neil said to Dad want a game of Chess? When I said to Neil why can't you show me? He replied that Chess is mainly visual. So my question is is it possible to learn and play Chess if your totally blind like myself? Thanks very much, I look forward to hopefully some responses.
