In play of games an amount of time happens while events and choices happen well for players then an event or series of events happen with everything going south. To progress beyond this failure point, a player needs to analyze the choices made by them that got them to that failure point and figure out where to make different choices. I had earlier created three different characters in coffeemud and none of them are now not retired. If I play coffeemud again, I'll do so with different character types and make different choices to see if I can get farther in the game. Remember, these games emulate real life in that none of us get out of here alive. Some of the mud games like discworld have seriously complex street maps in cities. Those need documenting and that in itself takes time but can pay dividends later since knowledge of where places are makes it easier to get to places competently to do quests. Life gambling and games are all set to give variable rewards which is why and how people keep on playing.
