I've never actually tried Brailling the card sleeves. The sleeves I've seen looked flimsy enough that they wouldn't hold the Braille for long. The other problem, of course, is that if someone took the cards out of the sleeves, not realizing the significance of the Braille, what was in the sleeve might no longer be correct.
I know you said to put the cards in the sleeves, and then Braille them. The problem with this is that I braille with a slate and stylus, and that might prove difficult to do, and would still damage the card. I think, though, that you just meant to braille the sleeves, and then put the cards in them, which makes sense, if you can find good sleeves. The sleeves alone, at least the ones I've seen, are not durable enough. Finding an excellent solution like that would be preferable, though, to Brailling the card. When I started collecting, just after Magic came out back in 1992, I think, I had no idea how valuable the cards would be. I was at a science fiction convention and someone offered their entire alpha/beta card set for $100. I bought it, and promptly Brailled all the cards, so I could play. Well, that set had one of each of the mox cards, which, at the height of collecting, turned out to be very valuable indeed. Thus, if I can find the right card sleeves, I'd be happy to try it. I wonder how dymo tape attached to the card sleeves would do. It would still leave you with the problem that if someone took the cards out of the card sleeves and rearranged them, the blind player would never know. Thanks for the suggestions, and I'd be happy to continue chatting, because I'd like to work out a way to do this right, for Mike, myself and anyone else I Braille cards for. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vapour Wiseblood" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 18, 2005 3:14 AM Subject: Re: audyssey: Legend of the Five Rings > I would suggest, for those cards that have a collectable aspect to > them, > that you put the cards in protective sleeves, then braille the sleeves. > > -Vapour > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Lorana Chanicut" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, December 17, 2005 7:46 PM > Subject: Re: audyssey: Legend of the Five Rings > > >> Hi Mike, >> >> There are several card games I play that are definitely playable in >> person. >> You do need to Braille the cards, as the games are commercially >> available, >> and designed for sighted people.
