Well, math does help, but you can start learning basic programming with 
only a rudimentary understanding of algebra. If you want to get into game 
programming knowing some basic trig and calculus along with some 
comprehension of physics will help with the more elaborate projects, but you 
could right a fairly basic program with only that basic understanding of 
algebra. Also, Recordings for the Blind in the United States has a lot of 
math audio books, so if you're here in the staes you can learn math even if 
you're rusty on your Nemeth. I would expect that there are similar 
organizations to RFB in Canada too. (I think you said that is where you 
live.)
