Ya know, it's too bad that governors such you find on old wind-up
phonographs and the like aren't employed more on such as fans. I had a
variable-speed turntable with a 4-pole nonsynchronous motor equipped with
such a governor. The motor ran quite cool and changes in line voltage didn't
affect the speed.
