Boop, I am pretty certain that all the basement floors in these units are designed with a central drain and slope toward that drain. That is pretty much how most basements I have seen are designed. I don't believe there is any way to be 100% certain that the lowest part of any drainage system will never see water. Depending on how much money I want to spend, yes I still am contemplating getting rid of the floor slope in the basement. The drain can be moved back to the utility room area rather than the center of the floor and the utility area can be segregated from the rest of the basement with a step. Of course, nothing says that we can't have a month of heavy rain while we are out of town and the drain backs up. Unless a house is on stilts, there will always be the possibility that the basement will see water.
The long and the short of it is that this flood was due to a backup and not to just a leaky basement. Rather than spend the money on recovering after a disaster I could always just spend the 200 bucks a year to have the main drain line snaked every year. Later. -- Blue skies.
