I have tried many things over the years on shoes. Yes there are many
different materials in the construction. Sometimes a fabric glue will work.
Sometimes the rubber cement, or contact cement works well. I have sometimes
used epoxy with success. Unless you are putting back a cardboard liner
inside the paper or wood Elmers is pretty useless. I have not tried the
Gorilla glue on a shoe but it looks promising. What ever you use attempt to
clean the surface with rubbing alcohol and clamp it when the glue is drying.
Even cloths pins can work.

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Shoe repair

Hello list,

Does anyone have experience with securing the tread of a shoe that is
starting to peel off? The tread is rubbery and the material that it was
attached to is spongy.

I assume if I try to use contact cement the heat created when bonding would
probably melt something.

Hot melt from a glue gun will be to stiff if I can even get it in between
anyways.

Rubber cement I guess would probably peel back over time caused by the
flexing of the shoe.

So I have been tempted to try Elmer’s glue. I have not tried this yet, I
believe that I have both the paper and wood types available.

Does anyone know what would work well for this type of shoe repair?

Thanks in advance,

Art
