Hi Robert. You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs. Shelf brackets have to be secured to the studs and to do that you need to put long screws through the paneling into the studs. Sue and I did this very thing within the last year. The best and best looking is a system that is available from Lowe's and Ace hardware and I imagine any home improvement store. There are vertical metal rails that mount to the studs with wood screws. There are slots in the rails that hold horizontal metal shelf supports. They slide in and down, locking in place. Then you set the shelves on top of the supports. It usually takes a little tapping with a hammer to make the supports go all the way down and lock securely into the vertical rails. The shelves, which are particle board covered with something like Formica, come in lengths of 2, 4, and 6 feet, and widths of 8, 10, and 12 inches. The metal parts are painted the same color as the shelf finish. Hope this helps.
