A suggestion I have for this is a long thin section of metal say about 2
mill thick by 4 mill wide by about 12 inch long. start marking at certain
points
say every half inch with a blade taking a cut into the metal of a few
strikes. then using a wine bottle cork drill into it say about 3 mill diameter
through the center and slide the rod through it so you can use the foot of the
cork as a stopper above the cap of the compresser chamber.

I use this method all the time with my tiger compressor. its a heavy duty
machine and a real beast. I always keep the oil bottle next to the machine at
all times and my hoses on a rack next to the compressor and my air tools on a
service board on the wall above the motor of the compressor.
