I'd not use my electronics soldering iron for cutting line, I made a tip for the purpose for a standard weller gun out of number 12 solid copper wire. cut a few inches and bend to suit your desires, don't miss the little 'L" bends where it fits into the ends of the gun. I hammered the end bend in my new tip to a flattish shape and it does fairly well.
BTW, if you have a gun and havn't used it in a while, loosen those two little nuts that hold the tip, remove the tip from the gun and go over the ends of the tip and the places where it hits the gun with very fine emery paper to clean it up of corosion. You'll be amazed how much faster the tip gets hot. without practice heat cutting line makes kind of a mess. what the real sailors do is cut the line and roll it in fingers while still hot to produce a nice hard pointed end. This keeps it from fraying and makes an end that's easy to push through blocks guides and the like. This makes for lousy braille reading afterwords so I don't reccommend that procedure. you can also put a bit of shrink tubing over the burned end of a line and shrink it up, that makes a pretty neat job tom fowle Net-Tamer V 1.13 Beta - Registered To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo!
