Charlie,

Keeping in mind that I am talking through my 32nd vertebrae,
it would seem that if you were running a combination unit
and lost either the heat or hot water function, it would
take your whole unit down.
Regards

Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Furnace Question

Greetings: I've been off the list for quite a while and
after
seeing Geoff Eden in Ottawa I thought I would sign on again.

Great to see the list is still very active with lots of
information.

I have a furnace question - I know this has probably been
discussed in the past but anyway ... I've been told by a
furnace
technician that our old furnace needs to be replaced. I'm
not
surprised and looking forward to getting a more efficient
model.
We rent an oil fired hot water tank and I wonder if we
should go
with a furnace that has a coil for hot water or whether we
should
keep the hot water separate. Both furnace and Hot water are
oil
fired.

The salesman thought with two teenagers and the fact that
the
furnace would be running all year if we went with a coil as
a
reason to keep the hot water heater separate. I've just
timed a
shower at 24 minutes - my 14 year old son. .

 Any thoughts?

Many thanks,

Charlie Macdonald
